Growing up in Del Rio, Texas, Bruno Lozano was bullied for being gay and flamboyant, so he never saw it as a place where he could ever build a future. But, after serving in the military and traveling the world, he returned to his hometown and, in 2018, became Del Rio’s first openly gay mayor. As Bruno likes to point out, hearts and minds can evolve—the people who harassed him for his sexual orientation when he was young are the same people who elected him to office.
