Helping New Moms Feel Less Alone
Just a few weeks into being a new mother, Karey Trusler felt overwhelmed by the demands of breastfeeding a newborn. At one point, Trusler went six days without sleep. Exhausted, depressed and feeling like a failure, the Mesa, Arizona, mom was in a dark place. Then she attended a support group for pregnant and postpartum women run by Gia Snooks at Dignity Health’s Mercy Gilbert Medical Center in Gilbert, Arizona. It was there that Trusler felt supported in acknowledging that motherhood isn’t easy, nobody is perfect, and that’s okay.
